The campaign you mention sounds really good and I'll keep an eye out for it on your blog.

If I had the energy I'd like to do something similar. Empire has a 1 in 3 chance that a sea crossing fails, and it took Carthage three attempts to land in Sicily. They were then defeated by the locals anyway. They finally conquered the place on their fourth go.

The one thing I like about Empire is that it is very abstract, because a turn is ten years. As a result, we don't even have army rosters. We just play a new battle very time it happens. But part of me does yearn for a more complex game; just not at the moment.

Thanks for the interest!
PaulCalibanhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13137774792085672600noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3482407251610013637.post-71308607546237066532010-12-26T20:47:43.903+00:002010-12-26T20:47:43.903+00:00Excellent report - I love it when the Romans win! ...Excellent report - I love it when the Romans win!

Something I wanted to inform you of. One of the guys at our club ran a Mediterannean campaign similar to yours (Romans, Carthaginians, Spanish, Gauls etc. etc.) with his own house rules. These included rolling for shipwreck (a very common event in those days) and plague.

During the campaign a number of armies were seriously weakened by these two events - so much so that few players were willing to invade other territories if crossing water was involved (as a consequence everyone left Sicily alone and the Carthaginians always crossed at the shortest point - into Spain).

He said it provided some fantastic results and scenarios (such as a huge Roman force reduced to 50% by plague and then crushed by the Gauls).

We'll be giving the same rules a bash this year and I'll update my blog accordingly.Broedershttps://www.blogger.com/profile/18218127480258279732noreply@blogger.com
