Do let us know how you get on with it, though; it could work really well with the English Civil War...Calibanhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13137774792085672600noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3482407251610013637.post-68470787002593043032013-03-05T22:38:38.422+00:002013-03-05T22:38:38.422+00:00Thanks for that, I apologise for making you repeat...Thanks for that, I apologise for making you repeat yourself.

I have read both posts now and indeed it is very helpful. I am in the UK so I will get one of these mats and start experimenting with my ECW figures.

thanks again.
Johnjohnpreecehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05548014163096067684noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3482407251610013637.post-11910808566687798322013-03-04T12:00:47.720+00:002013-03-04T12:00:47.720+00:00Hi Jonathan, the grassy stuff is a model railroad ...Hi Jonathan, the grassy stuff is a model railroad product I came across by chance. You can get it in the UK from Osborn's Models in England:

http://www.osbornsmodels.com/faller-180465--premium-landscape-wild-grass-meadow-16648-p.asp

I'm pretty sure you should be able to source it from a decent model railway supplier if you live, say, in the US. It's different from the usual tuft-style product in that it comes as a mat, which means you can tear different shapes and sizes to suit. It is more expensive than tufts, but because it's a mat it actually works out more cost effective for the amount you get. I have another blog post that explains it a little better here:

http://caliban-somewhen.blogspot.co.uk/2013/01/basing-experiment-huscarls-for-hastings.html

Hope this is making sense!Calibanhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13137774792085672600noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3482407251610013637.post-50003975804921322612013-03-04T11:39:30.507+00:002013-03-04T11:39:30.507+00:00These are very nice figures but the bases really g...These are very nice figures but the bases really grabbed my attention.

I am not a fan of 'building site' bases - lots of bare earth with tufts of grass. Except for desert style armies of course.

Your bases really do look like uncropped grassland. At the risk of being nosy I wuldlove tolearn more about how you do them.johnpreecehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05548014163096067684noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3482407251610013637.post-76640148611117084122013-03-04T09:18:01.085+00:002013-03-04T09:18:01.085+00:00Cheers everyone, and thanks for looking. Certainly easier than their classical forebears...Calibanhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13137774792085672600noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3482407251610013637.post-61421675101414424232013-03-04T03:00:13.204+00:002013-03-04T03:00:13.204+00:00Very inspiring work!Very inspiring work!Jonathanhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17008146232006674730noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3482407251610013637.post-27460139156428204502013-03-03T23:08:59.006+00:002013-03-03T23:08:59.006+00:00Some great looking stands there.
