Finally! More massed ancient North Africans

Well, not that ancient by the standards of the area. 144 massed foot in three units for Jugurtha's army:
All figures by Crusader Miniatures and shield transfers by Little Big Men.
I used the more ragged looking warriors instead of the trained foot that Crusader also make, the reason being to make these units fit in with my other three units of Companion Miniatures figures.
I was hoping to have completed them before now, but work has been even more nasty than usual, which is saying a great deal.
Final aerial shot to show the basing, my usual for this sort of terrain. These guys will see an outing soon in the campaign as they try to squish Albinus' Romans. And then Marius and Sulla will appear...

  2. These look just great! Looking at the shields, it appears that many of them are palm pilots.

    1. I like that - they can be palm pilots fighting bum spongers...

  6. Thanks for looking, everyone. It remains of course to be seen how they fight the nasty Romans...

  8. Great job Paul. Don't fancy their chances against Marius and Sulla, however!

    1. Yes, I know. They should give Albinus a hard time, though, and then spend a lot of time avoiding his successor before those two turn up in force...

  9. Very nice and an army and interest close to me.I love what you've done with the shields, my own army, which one day I hope to multi-base,has circular, leather effect shields, yours are far more striking. Bigred bat hosted pics of mine couple years back and sadly they have not progressed since...maybe will though now inspired by yours.

    1. I have some with round shields like the ones you mention, but I used those for the light cavalry and looser formation infantry types. Using larger shields for the massed troops was more expensive, because I needed to buy the shields separately (plus the transfers!), but I think it was worth it overall. Please let us know when you put your guys onto multi-bases, it would be good to see what others have done!

  10. Yes,more expense is occured but you now have a very unique army and a nice one at that. Re-basing isn't high on my list at the moment, and I revisited mine at Simons site the other day, can't believe its been since 2009 since l last looked at them!! where does time go?

    1. Rebasing is just plain nasty - necessary, but so horrible. Always seems like a waste of time even when it needs doing...
