Iberian Light Horse

Finally finished the light cavalry contingent for the ancient Spanish army:
There are 36 of these guys, by Navigator Miniatures.  I must admit that although they were easy to paint, motivation was lacking on my part.  I always find that energy flags not long before the end of a large project such as this army, and to be honest I'm surprised that it hasn't happened before now.  I kind of ground my way through them with grim determination, but at least that's them done now.  We shall see how they fare against the might of Rome next Tuesday in the final battle of the Empire campaign.
A top-down shot to see how they look from the gamer's viewpoint.  All that's left for this army now is some Gripping Beast command stands, two mounted and one foot for the high command.  They'll be finished in time for Tuesday as well.

  2. I've always wanted to build and Ancient Iberian army. Great looking cavalry unit but I can imagine the discipline needed to finish it!

  3. Thanks for looking, guys - that was quick! Navigator Miniatures are sold by Magister Militum - link on the left of the main page as you look at it. They are quite fine and would mix in well with the likes of 1st Corps. The older figures don't seem to have any variation, but newer ones (like these) do. They are also very cheap, especially if you buy unit deals. I really like their Parthians, after painting some for a friend. I can see an army of those looming in the future - but it will have to wait for a while...

  5. Very well done, Caliban! Your large project has been a treat to follow and like legatus, I'd like to paint up an Iberian army in 28mm as well.

Let's hope your boys send the Romans running. ;-)

  7. Wow - quite an impressive horde of cavalry! I have a few Navigator, ex- Magister Militum; on the smaller side of 28mm, but nice figs nonetheless. Best, Dean

  8. Thanks for looking, gents. I really enjoyed painting this army for the most part - certainly made a real change from Romans, hoplites and pikes. Dean is right about the Navigator Miniatures; there are some undiscovered gems in there, and the prices are excellent. We'll see how they perform on Tuesday!
