A fistful of Gauls

I had a couple of days off painting Numidians. While waiting for another load of them to arrive at the door, I had a look at my pile of Companion Miniatures Romans. I knew I had a few of these guys left wearing cloaks and brandishing swords, so I made a start on them.
It turned out that I had 24 of them left over from my Alaudae project, so I based them up as loose formation types to go into woods and be wiped out by their angry brethren.
 The idea is that they represent Gallic auxiliaries working for Caesar and/or other unsavoury types; hence the Roman gear.
The cloaks, however, are patterned to make them look different from any Roman legionaries that might be lurking nearby. I left the shields plain for the same reason.

    Followed this project for ages and wondered where you're getting your companion figs from? I have a decent pile of the Caesarian Romans,least a few hundred but only paint when I have what I class as an army sized group,for Romans usually 10x24 man units.I can't find any more companions.They did briefly make an appearance on ebay some months back, but just as rapidly went again (company wise) I must add this blog and its progress gives me inspiration. So thanks.

      Thanks for looking! I got lucky with the Companion Miniatures. Somebody I know took the chance to buy them up when a local games store moved and was offloading stock. He never got around to doing anything with them, so I bought them from him. I think that makes them third hand or something! I'd love to get my hands on more of them - well, maybe not the Roman legionaries. The Numidians are especially rare.

      Having said that, Companion also made some Peninsular War Napoleonic British, and my source still has those, if anybody is interested in buying them!

    Thanks for reply,you have any more companion Romans you'd be happy part with so I can finish my army? I have cash and I have (somewhere) Companion Numidians and may know location of more Companion Numidians depending on numbers discussed.Cheers Gordon

      I'd love to get my hands on more of their Numidians. I'm not sure yet if I'll have any of the Romans left - I'm going to painting the rest of the over the next six months, I reckon. If do have any, I'll be sure to let you know.

    As a matter of interest Companion figs made a very very brief return to the scene via ebay not that long ago.The seller was casting them up to order, which put me off buying (if honest) and never replied to couple of emails I sent him,which put me off even more.I saved his details on ebay and should he appear again I would buy.He advertised full range,inc numidians and spanish and celt cav (I think cav) ...if he pops back you want me to tell you?
